Thirteen Chicago Cubs and Bears fans arrived in Western North Carolina for five days in October, intent on enjoying fall colors. This didn’t happen as planned, because summer had just disappeared a week before their arrival. We did explore the Biltmore, Dupont State Forest, Pisgah National Forest, and Asheville.
This was a reciprocal journey. It was fun to meet new ambassadors as well as reacquaint ourselves with old friends. Originally nineteen ambassadors had expressed an interest in the journey, but health issues prompted six to withdraw before October 17. The members of FFWNC were flexible. Home hosting assignments shifted at the last minute, sometimes on a daily basis. Dinner hosts were generous in accommodating as new arrangements were made at a moments notice. It was gratifying to welcome four brand new club members as dinner hosts. This journey was truly a group effort and I thank everyone involved.
