Travel in a Unique Way

Friendship Force of Western North Carolina (FFWNC) was founded in 1979.  Marie Colton, a state legislator from Asheville at the time, was our club’s first leader.

Since our club’s founding, more than 3,000 people in Western North Carolina have participated in journeys either as hosts for foreign and domestic guests or as citizen ambassadors overseas experiencing cultures and countries across Europe, Central Asia, Southeast Asia and Australia, New Zealand, as well as Central and South America.

The experience and excitement of traveling to a new place you have never visited and staying with local residents of foreign or domestic locations is a truly unique way to travel and learn about people and culture.  You stay with local people and tour with locals, as well.  You most likely will be brought to places that the typical tourist would not  have the opportunity to experience.

You may arrive with a little trepidation, not knowing what to expect, but when you prepare to return home, you leave with a good understanding of the land you visited as well as the added benefit of having made some wonderful new friends.  You realize that the world is not so large and that people all over the world are very much alike.
